Grow Up

This article says Apple has removed all books published by John Wiley & Sons from Apple stores simply because Apple CEO Steve Jobs didn't authorize a biography published by John Wiley & Sons. Seems kind of silly to me. Certainly, I would agree that not selling the biography makes sense if you feel it is unfair or incorrect. But some of the other books pulled were Apple tech books that their Apple customers want. I guess this story just proves that big business is still run by people and people can let personal bias affect their decisions. Wouldn't it be nice if the heads of companies used moral principles to guide their decisions instead of petty personal ones?

Children need the right motivation...

My daughter is, I guess, a fairly typical nine year old. Remaining focused on a specific task isn't a strong suit. Remembering simple duties from day to day without being reminded pretty much never happens. But if she wants something, she sinks her teeth into it like a pit bull.

About a month ago, she was on about wanting a pet. One day she wanted a kitten. I flat out said no. Kittens become cats and cats are just not my thing. Then she wanted a puppy. I wasn't totally against that except for the concept of the stoop and scoop idea. I'm sorry but I had a dog as a kid and one of my jobs was to clean up the yard after it. There is not enough money in this world that could make me want to have to bag doggie do-do in a public place. So we moved on to the next animal.

"A hamster", she says.

Hmmm. Small rodent. Craps in a contained area. Feed it, water it. If she neglects her duties then it isn't so bad for me to pick up the slack. So I have a brain storm.

"Alright, I'll make you a deal. If you can keep your room clean for one month I will buy you a hamster".

Now, I'm thinking there is no way she will pass this test. Her room ALWAYS looks like a tornado just touched down. It took her three days to clean her room for the time trial to begin.

To make a long story short...we have a new family member. His name is Toffee.
